Light and Life
Happy Accidents
A manual exposure gone completely sideways, and somehow it still works. The ducks nearly disappear into the light instead of getting lost in the mistake.
Photography has been part of my work since my Navy days, documenting people and places that mattered in the moment they mattered. This collection gathers the frames that held up past that moment, portraits, landscapes, and the everyday light worth stopping for.
Prints are available, and commissioned shoots can be arranged. Visit Commissions to start that conversation.
Backyard Beauty (storm clouds at sunset) A storm rolling in, shot from my own backyard. Some views don't require going anywhere.
Bird on a Rail (red bird, Diego Garcia) A red fody on a railing in Diego Garcia. Native to Madagascar, but common enough on the island that they'd show up right outside the door, and patient enough to hold still for the shot.
Burn Line: The last color of the day, right before the sky gives up on it.
Split Exposure: A long exposure trick from my Navy photography training, me standing back to back with myself. Same person, same frame, two versions.
Happily Ever After (beach path, sunset) Charleston, South Carolina, our honeymoon. The walk to the water mattered as much as the water itself.
I Wish You Would (raccoon on tools) A raccoon that wandered up to our cabin door at the ranch and made itself at home among the tools.
Island Paradise (lagoon, dock, sailboats) The lagoon beach in Diego Garcia, where I was stationed. Water like this made the distance from home a little easier to sit with.
Low Tide, Last Light (beach sunset, silhouettes) The original photograph behind the Fields and Fables drawing of the same name. This one came first.
Ordinary Afternoon (mother, daughter, dolls) A photoshoot for a friend and her daughter. The afternoon didn't need staging to work.
Still Images 011 (dock chair at night, stars) A long exposure from Diego Garcia, one of the techniques I picked up during Navy photography training.
The Birds (black and white, seagulls) A flock breaking off the surf on a Florida beach, caught mid-scatter.
Tranquil Afternoon (sunlit forest) Late sun cutting through the trees at a park. Light like that is gone in ten minutes.
